Join us at Arroyo Friday, Feb 1 5-7 pm for "Western Sketches", new and recent works by Lane Hall.
Lane lives in the Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon. He graduated from Southern Oregon State College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He’s earned platinum membership in The Water- color Society of Oregon and has won numerous awards in state, national and international competitions. Northlight Books has published two of his drawings in their edition, Strokes of Genius II; The Best of Drawing Light and Shadow.
Lane Hall has produced and sold award-winning water- colors from his home in the Pacific Northwest for over twenty years. In 2004, he decided to give art his full attention. He enjoys recreating landscapes, seascapes, and other subjects from nature. However, since a family trip through Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks as an eleven-year- old boy, Lane has held a deep regard for the desert with its dry, clear air, extreme temperature swings and stark contrasts in light and shadow. The desert landscapes of New Mexico and Northern Arizona are the inspiration for many of the works in Arroyo'sconcerned latest show.
Landscapes are his favored subject and he enjoys painting 'plein air' when possible.
Lane Hall combines his skill with pencil and long history in watercolor to bring high drama as well as a painterly quality to the graphite medium. Loose, yet representational with bold focal points and exciting discoveries, his Southwest scenes reveal a bold palette of layering values over a gesso texture. The result brings a rugged beauty of the desert into the room to explore.
“I put myself there and get lost in the textures. I can smell the juniper, wonder what’s in a mountain crag, and yet there’s a mystery that’s hard to explain”, Lane says of his passion for painting desert scenes.
